Customer reviews are important to me as it shows me where my strengths and weakneses lie. I appreciate my clients' taking the time to write a review for me and am always grateful when someone gives me wonderful feedback that boosts my confidence and brings the sunshine into my day, knowing I've helped as much as I can
Truffle and I started working with Rizia at Pentlands Dog Training when Truffle was 7 months old. Truffle's been my first puppy. Rizia helped me build a focused and mutually-respectful bond with Truffle after the sparkles of the early puppy stage disappeared, especially as adolescence kicked in.
I feel Rizia has been as invested in our journey as I am. She always made herself available to support outside of sessions and explained the "why" behind the training. All of which is really important to me to understand as I continue guiding Truffle into a becoming a dog I'm proud to have as my furry adventure companion.
I really valued Rizia’s straight-talking, call-it-as-you-see-it approach. I particularly benefited from the kind but unambiguous steer. She gave Truffle and I an iterative programme that built solid foundations then grew with Truffle as she developed. Every goal felt achievable and realistic, and early wins helped me take the pressure off both of us.
Truffle is now 15 months old, calmer, incredibly focused on me in a range of situations, and recovers quicker when she gets frustrated.
We’ve just done our first introduction to scent-work session with Rizia, and the biggest compliment I can give is that I went in confident Truffle would do great — and she did! I wouldn't have felt that way even 3 months ago. I really wish we’d started with Rizia sooner.
From Jamie Sutherland
My 4 month old beagle and I recently completed Rizia’s 5 week puppy 1-2-1 course.
I found it incredibly enjoyable, interesting and rewarding. My puppy learned so much and she’s well on her way to mastering (and mastered) many key skills. Exactly what I was hoping for.
We started with some pretty decent foundations which Rizia acknowledged and therefore adjusted her programme accordingly.
Rizia clearly loves dogs and is passionate about their welfare; this shows with her positive training technique. She often made me pause and consider how my dog was feeling or what her experience might be, which made me even more empathetic to the world of a young puppy in a human environment.
Rizia is not only incredibly generous with her time (we frequently overran sessions and I messaged her with lots of questions and videos outside of class) but she is also hugely generous with her knowledge…which seems endless!
Rizia is a special person and I feel hugely fortunate to have found her to set me and my pooch on the right track. I know I’ll be back for more sessions and hints and tips in the future!
Without doubt I would recommend her to anyone looking to train and understand more about their dog.
I have worked with Rizia for several years now with different dogs. She has helped me so much with many different issues that arise and is happy to work through things at the right pace.
She is able to explain things really well and train the owners as well as the dog! Rizia works with really difficult dogs that many trainers would not take on. She always researches things, so that the dog has the best possible outcome.
It’s really obvious how much she cares for the dogs, but also the rapport that she builds with owners helps to build a great working relationship. Her kindness and generosity shine through in every session. Not only has she made life better for my dogs, she has also become a valued friend.
We have had a number of training sessions with Rizia, with both of our rescue dogs. Bea has issues with getting very excited about other dogs and Rizia reassured us that she is not reactive in a bad way, but just loves playing, so she showed us techniques that we still use now.
Rizia was very good at coming up with tailor-made suggestions to actually suit our specific dogs and us as well, rather than going through a formulaic training process. Because she has large dogs herself she was not worried by our big bull lurcher, and quickly got the measure of us and our dogs.
Very importantly, we never felt stupid asking her questions even when they were undoubtedly stupid questions! We hope to be able to do more training with her in the future.
Since training with Rizia for the last 6 weeks I’m delighted with the progress that Leia has made. My neighbours have also commented that she is much calmer when she sees them out with their dogs which is a big relief.
I love the way Rizia works with such kindness and understanding of the dog and the human. She has trained me to train my dog, everything is about setting the dog up to succeed and to enjoy the process of learning. There is still some way to go with her but my confidence in her is growing, and her trust in me is getting stronger
Steed the exuberant Lab puppy, “Wow Wow Wow, what a wonderful place.I was so excited when my Mum took me to Rizia’s. I loved the school, fields, grass, and so many new smells: I felt like I was home. We learned lots of fun ways to train, well mummy did. I must say, she is not as quick a learner as me.
Rizia helped her by being clear and concise, making sure Mummy knew what to do. Rizia also taught Mummy about high value rewards, she now gives me cheese for special treats. I love cheese. During the training I was a little scared when I saw mummy and Rizia jumping what they called ‘the burn’ and I froze on one side of the water unsure what to do.
Rizia explained to Mummy what to do and we were all together again. I felt so safe that Rizia had helped.I had so much fun learning all these new things. I just hope mummy takes me back soon as she needs to learn more than me. Actually Daddy does too. So Rizia, please can we come back? I promise mummy will behave: I will give her high value rewards.” Cuddles, Steed
